This is the first lens initially produced for Pentax 67. Until introduction of 90mm f/2.8 (LS) and then 90mm f/2.8 it was only one standard lens. It has quite unique optics and not only for Pentax 67 system but for all medium format. So, Asahi has invested in its development all the forces to became significant in medium format. And they did the fastest standard lens ever made with one of the best bokeh! In addition it is equiped with 9 blades aperture unit that is very important for smoother bokeh with closed down aperture up to 1EV.

Variants

There are three versions of the lens were made. The first is singlecoated while two others are multicoated. But there is no difference in optical formula between these versions. The difference is only in coating and lens finishing.

The diaphragm unit of the lens has 9 aperture blades. Each of the images below shows aperture consequently closing by 1EV, excluding first and second because it is very important for bokeh.

There is no special hood dedicated to only this lens. With introduction of it the combined plastic square hood with clip-on mount was released. It is suitable for any of the standard lenses on Pentax 67 system. Also it is possible to use old “Takumar” hood designed for 105mm f/2.4 and 90mm f/2.8 (LS), that were produced with and without bayonet mount. Cheap round metal or rubber hood may be found on eBay for just $4.
