This lens is the fastest of 55mm wide-angle lenses made for the Pentax 6X7/67 system. It is big and bulky but still a good performer. It is also bright in the viewfinder, sharp even wide open and keeps lines straight. The large front element causes a tendency to lens flare, but with a pleasant quality.
The biggest drawback if this lens is 100mm filter thread. The bayonet filters are hard to get because they are often very overpriced while screw-in filters of the same size are not available. The solution may be in using gelatin filter frame of corresponding size. But it is hard to find in aftermarket too. And finally, if the lens cap being lost it is practically impossible to find another one or get a replacement cap that will fit the front of the lens. Moreover, it is fully applicable to the lens hood.
The lens being originally manufactured as single coated was replaced by multi-coated one after two years. So, it was never been updated after all, it was replaced by completely new.
